The 1st Annual Charity and Celebrity Golf Classic drew a combination of personalities, sponsors and avid golfers, while raising $10,000 for the Saint James Infirmary in San Felipe. All participants competed at the master-planned community’s La Ventana del Mar Golf and Beach Resort and its newly completed Las Caras de México Golf Course. The tournament was presented by The Universal Golf Foundation.

In addition to the Golf Classic, the weekend included a series of celebrations featuring performances by local mariachi bands and salsa dancers. More than 80 golfers stepped up to the greens.

“We were thrilled with the success of the event, which brought together celebrities, Mexican officials, residents and visitors for challenging golf, sunny days, great music, margaritas and a full moon over the Sea of Cortez. All the elements came together to make our debut tournament a memorable one. Most importantly, we were able to raise a significant donation for the San Felipe hospital, which is important to El Dorado Ranch and the surrounding community,” said Pat Butler, chairman and CEO of Club Acquisition Company (CAC), which owns and manages El Dorado Ranch. CAC has corporate offices in Denver, and offices in Phoenix and San Diego.

The Saint James Infirmary in San Felipe is a fully licensed hospital. Founded by Lowell M. Somers, M.D., and his wife, Family Nurse Practitioner Caroline Thorsen, the nonprofit medical, acute surgery and trauma center also offers its services to U.S. and Mexican citizens who do not have insurance. The infirmary depends on patient fees to remain in operation.
